RELIGION

Mosque in Yemen
The main religion in Yemen is Islam. A small number of Yemenis practice Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism.

The Yemeni constitution is heavily based on Sharia Law. Although the constitution doesn't explicitly allow freedom of religion, it does let its citizens privately practice whatever they want.

Shrine
Muslim Yemenis either follow the Shafii Order of Sunni Islam or the Zaydi Order of Shia Islam. The former is one of the earliest schools of Islamic thought. The latter is a branch of Shia Islam taught by Zayd ibn 'Ali.
Yemenis observe the Five Pillars of Islam, including five prayers a day, Friday as the weekly day of rest and a daytime fast during the month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the the ninth and most sacred month of the year in Islamic culture. The purpose is to mark that Allah gave the first chapters of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammed in 610. During Ramadan, Muslims fast, abstain from pleasures and pray.
